I’m always for trying new things, and my absolute best is exploring things I haven’t yet tried in the Mother City.
I have been wanting to go to the very much raved about and famous high tea at the Mount Nelson Hotel, and what better time than a sunny Sunday with my beautiful friend Sara by my side.
The Mount Nelson is located in Gardens Cape Town and is famous for its pink buildings, heritage, prestige service and of course their incredible high tea! The 5 star hotel offers the tea everyday at different time slots. The first one being the morning tea, which is a lighter version of the afternoon tea and is R225 per person. They then have the afternoon tea, which we attended and they charge R295 per person for this. Lastly, they offer an evening tea which is also R295 per person.
We were greeted by friendly staff and the ambience was set with a beautiful piano player in the background. We were first brought tea menus, and I chose the strawberry and vanilla infused rooibos tea which was incredible. Next, they brought us our first course savories. Among these were delicate finger sandwiches including rare roast beef and rocket, smoked salmon and egg mayonnaise and my favourite the dusted biltong bits with cream cheese. The second tear had delicious homemade chicken pies, spinach and feta quiches, veggie wraps and mushroom pastries. They then offered us freshly baked scones, which of course we didn’t say no too! They were served with and jam and were absolutely delicious. We then made our way over to the sweets table. The variety and choice was endless! After much debate with myself, I chose a chocolate brownie, fudge, custard filled éclair and millionaire shortbread. Believe it or not I then followed on with a chocolate cake pop, mini lemon meringue, crumpets and the South African favourite milk tart.
Very full and very satisfied, I left wanting to make another booking to go back again! The service was impeccable, the food was delicious and the overall vibe was sophisticated yet relaxed. It is definitely something I recommend everyone does as is either a family outing, a birthday celebration or just as a Sunday funday activity!
